It receives and sends.

Blood flows toward it; the heart receives it and sends it on. It cannot just receive. It cannot just give. It cannot decide to keep anything for itself.

His health depends on rhythm, alternation, and flow.

That's why I don't view the heart energetically as merely the organ of love. That's far too simplistic. The heart is an organ of participation in life.

Heart and the element of fire

Although the heart is considered to predominantly belong to the Fire element, in its organic form it receives all the elements. It is associated with joy, warmth, connection, awareness, and light—what we might, in a very simplified way, call the presence of the spirit in a person.

Fire has one interesting characteristic. It wants to burn. It wants to spread, to connect, to warm, to illuminate. That's why healthy heart energy isn't just the ability to love.

It's visible in the eyes, in spontaneity, in laughter. In the ability to be delighted by something. In the desire to feel connected to someone. In the ability to experience the moment without immediately analyzing it.

It just feels right: I'm glad I'm here.

When I view the heart from that perspective, its opposite state isn't necessarily hatred; it's more like an absence of joy.

A person can have a job, a partner, a house, a family, security, and a fully functional life, yet somewhere deep down no longer participate in their own life.

Everything works, but little of it touches him.

This is an important topic of the heart for me. It's not just a question of "Do you love?" The question is, "What brings you to life?"

The heart and the circulatory system are not the same story.

If I view the heart as the center, I view the bloodstream as its ability to bring what exists in the center to the periphery.

The heart can generate a pulse, but that pulse must go somewhere. Blood must reach the head, arms, legs, skin, organs, every remote part of the body, and then return.

It's a beautifully energetic depiction of the relationship between our center and the world.

Can I bring what I feel inside myself into my hands, my feet, my words, and my decisions? Can I live what I feel? And can what comes from the world find its way back to me?

Because there are people who feel a lot, but live very little.

The heart says one thing. Life looks completely different.

They love someone, but never show it. They want to leave, but stay. They want to get closer, but pull away. They want to create something, but wait for years. They know what makes them happy, but there's never time for it.

Then there is a heartbeat, but no circulation. Life exists at the center, but it does not reach the periphery.

Heart and protection

When we talk about the heart, we often talk about „opening the heart.“.

But I think that in doing so we often skip the most important question: why did he lock it up in the first place?

The heart doesn't close without a reason.

It used to be too much. Too much pain, loss, rejection. Too much disappointment, emotional unpredictability.

The child gives love and receives no response. They show joy and someone mocks them. They seek closeness and their parent is unavailable. They fall in love and get hurt. They lose someone they love.

And at some point, the system concludes that it won't feel as much anymore.

The problem is that we can't selectively close our hearts. We can't completely shut the door on pain while leaving the door to joy wide open. When we reduce our capacity to be hurt, we often reduce our capacity to be thrilled.

Then the man says, „I'm fine.“ But fine isn't the same as alive.

Heart and the child who learned that love is insecure

This is one of the most important layers of my heart.

What happens when a child loves someone who is at the same time a source of security and pain? They can't simply stop loving. They need a mother and a father. They need a sense of belonging.

That's why they don't dismiss the relationship. They begin to regulate their own heart. How close can I get? How much can I need? How much can I show?

How much can I love without losing myself?

And that's where a pattern emerges that later repeats itself in adult relationships.

A man wants closeness, but when he gets it, he starts to pull away. Love comes, but the other person's true availability begins to suffocate him.

An unavailable partner can be incredibly attractive to him, while a stable person doesn't excite him.

Why?

Because the heart hasn't just learned what love is. It's also learned how a certain level of distance alongside love feels familiar and secure. That's why some people don't choose love. They choose the familiar regulation of distance.

Heart and joy

The emotion of joy is connected to the heart.

But joy isn't just laughing and being in a good mood. Joy is the organism's ability to open up… to this moment, to this person, to this experience, to life.

That's why there are people who can endure enormous amounts of pain but very little joy. As long as there's a problem, they're incredibly capable. While they're saving someone, they have strength. While they're fighting, they know who they are. When things are tough, they're mobilized.

And when things finally get good, restlessness sets in, and they look for a new problem, analyze the relationship, start a new project. They enter into conflict.

Something has to recreate the intensity.

Because their nervous system knows mobilization but doesn't know a prolonged state: I'm fine for no reason and I don't have to do anything about it.

That's why heartfelt joy and opening your heart require a certain kind of courage.

Can I be happy without waiting for punishment? Can I love someone without mentally preparing myself for their departure? Can I enjoy something without asking how long it will last, and have a nice day without feeling like I've forgotten something?

For some people, sadness is more familiar than joy. And so, paradoxically, it feels safer to them.

Heart and sorrow

Energetically, one cannot speak of the heart without loss.

Because everything we truly love, we can lose. That's why an open heart is never a heart protected from pain.

Quite the opposite.

An open heart accepts the fact that love is risky.

Someone can leave or die. A relationship can end. A child can grow up. A stage of life can pass. We can lose the version of ourselves we once were.

The problem arises when, after a loss, we don't just mourn what's gone, but decide that we'll never allow ourselves that kind of exposure again.

Then protection against future loss becomes protection against future life.

Heart and giving

I wrote about the problem of reception in relation to the pancreas.

With the heart, there is a similar but still different dynamic.

Some people love through giving. They care, help, listen, and rescue. They forgive forever and carry others. They understand.

And on the outside, they look like people with huge hearts, noble.

But there's an awkward question: can they themselves be loved if they give nothing?

Because beneath the surface, their giving isn't always just love, but a way of securing their own place in someone else's life.

If I need you, you won't leave me.

If I give you enough, I'll be worth it to you.

If I understand you well enough, maybe one day you'll understand me.

If I carry your pain, I have a reason to stay close.

Then the heart doesn't give freely.

Giving becomes an unspoken contract. And that's why, after years of giving, such people become embittered.

„After everything I've done for them…“ or “I hate people.”.

We often see that beneath giving there wasn't just love. There was a need for security.

Heart and boundaries

A heart without boundaries isn't an open heart but an unprotected system.

This is a very important difference.

Openness doesn't mean that everyone has access to us. Love doesn't mean we have to stay. Compassion doesn't mean we have to rescue. Understanding doesn't mean tolerating everything.

I can love you and say no. I can understand your pain and not let you hurt me. I can wish you well and no longer be part of your life. I can feel love and at the same time close the door.

That's not a closed heart. That's a mature heart.

Because a boundary isn't meant to stop love. A boundary determines which relationships love can circulate through healthily.

Blood as a symbol of life force

Blood is the bearer of life in almost all ancient symbolic systems.

Physiologically, it transports oxygen, nutrients, hormones, immune cells, and numerous other substances throughout the body.

From an energetic perspective, blood is the moving life force. And here the bloodstream poses a very simple question: where is life still flowing within me, and where have I stopped it?

There are parts of life to which we no longer send energy.

We used to dance; we don't dance anymore. We used to create; we've stopped. We used to have friends; we've withdrawn. We used to be curious; now we're cautious. We used to fall in love freely; now we weigh the risk.

A person can physically continue living for decades after they have stopped nourishing certain parts of themselves with life.

That's why, when it comes to blood circulation, I don't just focus on the „flow of love“ in treatments. I look at the distribution of life energy.

Which parts of me are still getting blood, and which ones have I left waiting?

Heart and rhythm

The heart has another fascinating characteristic.

Rhythm. It doesn't run at full throttle all the time. It accelerates. It slows down. It adapts.

And between two beats there is a brief release.

That's why the heart is energetic It also speaks of the ability to alter arousal and surrender.

A person who lives his whole life as if he must hold on to, control, or predict something loses his natural rhythm.

Everything becomes an effort. Even rest becomes a task. Even meditation becomes something that needs to be done well. Even love becomes a project.

But life is not a straight line. It has contraction and expansion. Approaching and moving away. Work and rest. Encounter and solitude. Inhale and exhale. Giving and receiving.

Hello heart, it doesn't try to stop the rhythm; it trusts it. It has confidence. That's why excessive control weakens the heart.

Heart control has a different character than pancreas control.

The pancreas asks: will there be enough afterward?

The heart asks, what will happen to me if I completely give in to what I'm feeling? That's why the heart's control often looks like emotional restraint.

That means I won't show you how much you mean to me, I won't be the first to call, and I'll never let on that I've been hurt. I won't get too excited or give myself over completely.

I'll leave a part of myself out of the relationship, just in case.

That „just in case“ is often the place where love stops circulating altogether.

A man wants a relationship, but he always keeps one foot outside of it. He wants life, but he leaves an exit. He wants to surrender to something, but he watches himself as he surrenders.

It's not a completely closed heart, but it's never fully committed.

Heart as ruler

Just as Gaia is the heart of creation in an energetic sense, the heart is, in a way, the ruler among the organs. That image is very energetically interesting to me.

A true ruler doesn't do every job in the kingdom. He sets the direction and maintains order at the center. When the center is stable, the periphery knows where it belongs.

I see the same thing in people. When someone knows what they love, what matters to them, who they belong to, what they will no longer betray within themselves, and what makes them want to get up in the morning, a huge number of decisions become easier.

But when the heart has no say, it's the mind that must govern everything. The mind evaluates: Is this smart? What will others think? What's safer? What if I'm wrong? What's expected of me?

A person can make a hundred rationally sound decisions and end up in a life that doesn't belong to them at all.

That's why the heart is not the opposite of reason. The heart provides the value by which reason organizes the path.

The heart's deepest theme, then, may not be love, but permission to be alive, to let something touch us. That I can want something and show that I care. That we love without possession and, at the same time, can lose something, free from the decision that I will never love again.

We can say no without shutting our hearts, receive love without needing to deserve it, and feel joy without fearing that we'll have to pay for it.

We can let people come and let them go.

Because the heart doesn't try to stop the blood so it won't lose it. It lets it go, and the blood returns.

Perhaps this is the most beautiful lesson of the heart. Life isn't preserved by holding on to it. Life is sustained through circulation and flow.

A heart in its healthy energetic state therefore does not say, „Nothing will hurt me anymore,” but rather, „I can be hurt and still remain open.“

Don't say „I don't need anyone,” but rather „I can love without losing myself.“

Don't say „This has to last,” but rather „As long as it's here, I'll be here.“

And maybe that is precisely the deepest form of heart security.

Yes, maybe we'll lose. But we have faith that after every contraction we can open up again. After every departure, life continues to flow. We don't have to stand guard over our own hearts to survive life.

Although opening the heart in the treatments I perform is often a painful process, reality always responds to a truly open heart with a flow of life's gifts and joy.

~W

Tags:

circulatory system

,

heart

          September 30, 2026.

Pancreas: organ of abundance, reception, and inner measure

What does the pancreas symbolize on an energetic level?
